Qualification

Evening sessions with artificial lighting.
The Qualification Tournament is preceded by the “Country Quota
Playoff” matches (with a single elimination format) to determine the
teams eligible to participate in the Main Draw through the
Qualification Tournament.
The Qualification Tournament (i.e. max. 64 teams at the completion
of the “Country Quota Playoff” matches) consists of a single
elimination format.
The preliminary matches of the Main Draw are based on the pool play
system. The final phase of the Main Draw consists of a single
elimination format with 16 teams.
The winners of the 2 semi-finals play the finals for the 1st and 2nd
place while the losers play the finals for the 3rd and 4th place. |

The Bonus Pool will be paid to all eligible athletes as follows: by 31

PLAYERS'
ELIGIBILITY
(FIVB

Only players who have sent to the FIVB the required forms (WT/01,
WT/01M , WT/01W and WT/07) will be considered eligible to take
part into the 2003 FIVB events. |
ENTRY
(FIVB
website) |
The FIVB confirms the list of entries to the organizers of the
event, with the Main Draw and Qualifications as per the Entry Points
of that day 13 days before the start of the event. Entry Points are
the sum of individual ranking points based on the best 4 out of the
last 5 FIVB Open, Grand Slam and World Championships participations
within the last 365 days.

FORFEIT |
Each National Federation is responsible to inform immediately both
the FIVB and the organizers in case of forfeit of an enrolled team. |
PRELIMINARY INQUIRY
&
TECHNICAL MEETING |
Athletes must attend the Preliminary Inquiry and present their
official forms (players' commitment, health certificate, prize
money form), if not already previously provided to the FIVB.
Athletes' attendance of the technical meeting is mandatory. If
required, a drawing of lots will be made during the meeting;
seeding and detailed information on the competition will be
distributed. |

UNIFORMS |
If
required by the FIVB Technical Supervisor, uniforms will be
checked during the Preliminary Inquiry. Athletes of the same team
must wear the same colour and style of shorts briefs. The display
of the individual players' sponsors' logos on shorts and
accessories must comply with the FIVB advertising regulations.
Speedo playing shirts/tank tops will be provided by the organizers
to the athletes, officials and organizing staff. The Rule
concerning the implementation of the Men’s shorts (i.e 15 cm.
above the knee cap) has been confirmed by the FIVB Board of
Administration in May 2003. |

SEEDING |
In the Qualification Tournament
(Grand Slam and Open Events), teams are seeded as per the players'
365 day FIVB World Ranking points on the day before the event
(Technical Meeting).
In the Main Draw all teams are seeded as per the players' most
recent Main Draw finish (best 4 out of 5 last finishes) over the
last 12 months in FIVB World Tour events on the day before the
start of the event (Technical Meeting). |

FIVB Official Beach Volleyball Rules
approved by the FIVB Board of Administration are included in the
Beach Volleyball Referee Guidelines and posted on the FIVB Web
site at
http://www.fivb.org/Beach.
Playing system
- Rally Point System 2 out of 3 sets as follows:
a) First and second sets
- 21 Points
- switch every 7 points
- one technical
time-out of 30" at third court switch (sum of 21 points)
- one time-out of 30" per team/set
b) Third eventual set
- 15 points
- switch every 5 points
- one time-out per team
All sets win by 2 points.
Intervals between sets to be of 1 minute.

WELCOME
& LOCAL TRANSPORTATION
|
Organisers will welcome Qualification and Main Draw players at
Rhodes “DIAGORAS” International Airport and will take care of the
local transportation from the Airport to the hotel, provided that
the teams will send their detailed travel itinerary (flight and
arrival time) until Friday June 6th to Fax No:
+30.210.9236292 (Hellenic Volleyball Federation / Event Office).
Local transportation for any other persons, like coaches, guests,
or family members are not under the responsibility of the
promoter. |

BOARD & LODGING |
The
organizer will provide Main Draw teams with hotel accommodation
(double room) and meals from the evening of Thursday 12th
June, to breakfast on
Monday 16th
June 2003.
Qualification Tournament teams are responsible for their own
expenses including, but not limited to, airfare, visa, hotel,
food and miscellaneous expenses. The organizers are also
responsible for the cost related to the athletes proceeding from
the Qualification Tournament to the Main Draw in the organizer's
designated Hotel. The accommodation hotel (double room) and food
for teams qualifying for the Main Draw are provided from the
evening of Thursday 12th June, to breakfast on
Monday 16th
June 2003.
Athletes are personally responsible for all extras at the hotel
such as minibar, phone calls, laundry, etc. to be paid upon
checkout.
The organizers are not required to make reservations for coaches,
friends, and family members accompanying the participating
athlete. |

TRANSPORTATION
|
Athletes (or/and their National Federations) are responsible for
their own international and domestic airfare and for any airport
taxes or visa expenses.
Athletes (or their
National Federations)
are requested to apply early enough for their entry visas,
whenever needed. |

Accreditation |
Organizers must provide all
Organizing Committee members, FIVB Officials, referees, athletes,
VIP's, journalists, technical staff, court personnel, volunteers,
etc. with an official ID card and must ensure that only people
with accreditation access the designated venue areas. |
|
Withdrawal SANCTIONS |
Withdrawal and/or disbanding of
teams/athletes entered in the Main Draw is not allowed (once the
confirmed list is issued), unless in a case of "force majeure" or
player’s injury. In such cases, a Medical Certificate or a
declaration of good faith must be provided to the FIVB before the
start of the Technical Meeting. Athletes in the Main Draw may be
replaced by any team member for reasons of "force majeure", for a
30-day period (keeping its Main Draw status) only once during the
season, and for one Tournament only.
In case of withdrawal and/or disbanding of teams/athletes entered
in the Main Draw without any Medical Certificate or declaration of
good faith, the FIVB will then apply a US$ 3,000 fine, as
specified in the "Sanctions" chapter of the World Tour Handbook.
Withdrawal and/or disbanding of teams/athletes entered in the
Qualification Tournament is not allowed (once the confirmed list
is issued), unless in case of "force majeure" or player’s injury,
In such cases, a Medical Certificate or a declaration of good
faith must be provided to the FIVB before the start of the
Technical Meeting.
In case of withdrawal and/or disbanding of teams/athletes entered
in the Qualification Tournament without any Medical Certificate or
declaration of good faith, the FIVB will then apply a US$ 500
fine.
Athletes who have not communicated their travel itineraries to the
organizers and who arrive late for the Technical Meeting (i.e
after the seeding is made) will be excluded from the event by the
FIVB Technical Supervisor for "no show" or fined.
Athletes failing to attend the Technical Meeting and who have not
sent the appropriate "force majeure" documents before the start of
the event concerned will be sanctioned by the FIVB.
Notification for last minute withdrawals on the day of a Technical
Meeting must be sent to the FIVB Beach Volleyball Department (+ 41
21 345 35 48) as well as to the organizers of the event, and the
FIVB Technical Supervisor at the venue office. |

Insurance |
Athletes must have their own
liability and medical insurances. The FIVB is not responsible for
any medical expenses incurred while competing in a tournament. |
|
MEDICAL CONTROLS |
The FIVB reserves the right to
perform random medical controls, as per FIVB rules and
regulations. |
